Menquin, an online formal wear rental company, recently published a list of “10 Amazing Wisconsin Wedding Venues,” and Kenosha’s Circa on Seventh was included.
The description of the venue, now 2 1/2 years old, said: “With its classic brick front and welcoming French doors, the outside of Circa on Seventh looks like a trendy (if almost hipster) locale, but the simple, classic interior is timeless.”
“It was nice to be included,” said Hanni Gould, manager of the family owned and operated business. “Brides are looking all over for a unique setting for their weddings and receptions. We think we provide a classic setting that kind of surprises people. You would never suspect what the inside is like when you see it from the street. ”
A first-time visitor to Circa on Seventh is usually surprised by its high ceilings and airy feeling, said Gould. From that point, the options and attention to detail tend to seal the deal for many brides and their families.
Gould, who worked with her mother Kathy Meyer in the catering business for a number of years, came back into the family business when they rehabbed the building at 4902 7th Ave. “We were able to design the building the way we wanted it to be,” she added.
The family also operates the business in a way that they feel is a step above many other facilities and caterers. Real linen and glassware—no plastic stemware to be seen—are just the start. The employees are professionally uniformed to make the best possible impression.
“We have catered so many events off-site, and saw how sloppy some people did business,” Gould added. “We wanted a classy look to everything we do.”
Maybe the quirkiest part of the Menquin site was this bit of information: “We save penguins. And you can win a trip to visit them in Patagonia. Every tuxedo rental directly aids in the adoption of an endangered penguin.”
They are not clear if they are actually adopting the birds themselves or if they are working with zoos.
If I had to rent a tuxedo, I’m sure I would still go to Mike Bjorn’s, but the Menquin thing is an interesting business model, AND they like penquins.
